Reinforcer Assessment Project

Activity Details

Complete each of the following components. Use headings to clearly indicate what section/part of the assignment you are completing.

Part 1:

1.Title Page

2.Select one target student (5 points) – approximately 1 paragraph

•Obtain written permission (BACB Guidelines for Responsible Conduct (GRC) 3.01) Make sure that you have obtained written consent for the individual from the individual’s guardians and/or agency/school district or the individual if capable – for your records

•Create and use a pseudonym in your paper to protect the student’s identity and to maintain confidentiality (GRC. 2.07).

•Describe demographic information on the student including age, gender, setting, and relevant characteristics (e.g., disability or any developmental delays such as in motor skills or language).

2.Select and define stimuli to assess (5 points)  – approximately 1 paragraph

Identify and define the stimuli that need to be assessed to determine preference or a stimulus to determine if it is a potential reinforcer. Stimuli to be assessed can include things such as toys, games, food, etc. The stimulus/stimuli you select must be pre-approved by the instructor and must adhere to BACB Guidelines for Responsible Conduct. Approval will be provided in Part 1 feedback, after grading.

3.Rationale (5 points)  – approximately 1 paragraph

•State your rationale for why the preference/reinforcer assessment is necessary. Your rationale must be centered on the needs of the individual.

4.Methods (15 points)  – approximately 2 – 5 paragraphs

•Describe your preference and/or reinforcer assessment plan

•You may plan to conduct a preference assessment only, or plan both a preference assessment and a reinforcer assessment. Your description should be clear and concise. It should demonstrate a clear understanding of the technique selected (e.g., paired choice preference assessment). Your description must include:

oA description of the specific assessment technique. (2 points)

oWhy the selected technique is the most appropriate technique for assessing the stimulus/stimuli with this individual. Support your reasoning with evidence (cite course materials) (3 points)

oHow specifically the technique will be implemented. (This should be clear and specific enough for anyone reading this section to be able to implement the assessment as you have intended.) Your description should include information such as what is presented to the individual, how the stimuli will be presented, when the stimuli will be presented and for how long the individual will have access to the items, how many times stimuli will be presented, and how data will be collected. (6 points)

oInclude a description of how you expect to analyze the data and your plan for graphing it (e.g., the type of graph(s) you plan on using and what information will you put in it). Support your reasoning with evidence (cite course materials) (4 points)

5.Use APA format and proper grammar (5 points)

•You should write professionally, clearly, and abide by APA format guidelines as well as use proper grammar. Review your document for typos, spelling errors, and incomplete sentences prior to submission. This is a required aspect of your paper. Poorly written papers may not be accepted.

Part 2 :

1.Implement assessment and collect data (10 points) – approximately 1 paragraph

•Implement your assessment(s) as approved. Collect data on your student’s behavior as appropriate for the assessment techniques.

oProvide a summary of how implementation of the assessment went. Were there any obstacles? Did everything go as expected? (5 points)

oSubmit 1 completed data sheet(s) with data filled in. This needs to be included in your document as an appendix (5 points)

2.Graph your data (5 points)

•Create a graph based on your data. If you conducted both a preference assessment and a reinforcer assessment, then two graphs are necessary.

oMake a graph summarizing the data collected.

oInclude your graph(s) in the written section of your document and include all parts based on the type of graph – line graph, or bar graph.

3.Data Analysis (20 points) – approximately 2 paragraphs

•Interpret the data and identify what information the assessment(s) has provided. If you conducted both make sure you include data on your reinforcer assessment as well.

oClearly and objectively describe the student’s preferences.

a.Identify the most preferred stimulus. (2 points)

b.Include a rationale for your decision, including why you think it is preferred (e.g., what data support your decision for saying it is most preferred). (3 points)

c.Is this stimulus likely to function as an effective reinforcer? Why/why not? Focus your reasoning on the data and your knowledge about preference and reinforce assessments. (3 points)

d.Provide supporting evidence and cite course materials. (2 points)

oClearly and objectively describe the student’s preferences

a.Identify the least preferred stimulus. (2 points)

b.Include a rationale for your decision, including why you think it is preferred (e.g., what data support your decision for saying it is least preferred). (3 points)

c.Is this stimulus likely to function as an effective reinforcer? Why/why not? Focus your reasoning on the data and your knowledge about preference and reinforce assessments. (3 points)

d.Provide supporting evidence and cite course materials. (2 points)

4.Discussion (10 points) – approximately 1 paragraph

•Were the results expected or unexpected? Include information about why you think your assessment did or did not work as expected. Describe any changes you would need to make to the assessment to gain more accurate and/or useful information.

5.Complete document: (Pass/Lose 5 points)

•Your complete document includes Part 1 and 2, completed data sheets, and graph(s). When you submit part 2 it belongs after part 1. Part 1 must be revised based on your facilitators feedback.

6.Use APA format and proper grammar (5 points)

•You should write professionally, clearly, and abide by APA format guidelines as well as use proper grammar. Review your document for typos, spelling errors, and incomplete sentences prior to submission. This is a required aspect of your paper. Poorly written papers may not be accepted.
